Today’s planetary transit should give us a peaceful, easy feeling. But we’re being eased into some intense emotional energy over the weekend. We’ve got the Summer Solstice, a new moon in Cancer, and a solar eclipse all hitting at once. Not to mention all these retrogrades—there are currently five. But that’s for another article.
Let’s take a look at what all of this means for us—on a personal and global scale.
The Moon is Conjunct Venus at 4:40 AM
When the moon in Gemini forms a conjunction with Venus, also in Gemini, it can usher in a sense of peace and harmony, deep empathy, a desire for beauty, and heightened sexual energy. It brings our emotions to the surface, and makes us more sensitive to everything around us—the good and the bad. Luckily, we’re more likely to attract the good under this influence.
All of this Gemini energy has us in the mood for socializing, and it would be a great time for entertaining, or just nurturing and loving on your nearest and dearest.
You’ll also be seeking ways to bring more beauty into your life and home, which might lead to a bit of retail therapy. Just be careful not to let your emotions outweigh your common sense when you’re up at the cash register.
All of this love and beauty might need to bolster us for this weekend, when we may be forced to confront some difficult and uncomfortable truths in order to grow into who we want, and need, to be.
The Summer Solstice and the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer
Cancer New Moons are generally sensitive and emotional times, and have us feeling introspective. We ponder things like what our place in this life is, and look for the meaning in everything around us. New moons are a time to slow down and reflect on what’s been happening, and what we want to happen in the future.
Combine that new moon energy with the changing of the season and a solar eclipse, and you’ve got a whole lot of focus placed on new beginnings. The only trouble is, Cancer isn’t so much a fan of change.
That could make this weekend a little sticky and uncomfortable, as there may be old stories, patterns, or energies that we need to release. And we might even know it. We just don’t feel ready.
Here’s the thing about Cancer, though. She might love to retreat into her safe little shell as the world spins outside her window. But even if she were forced to move into a brand new shell (weird analogy, I know, but stay with me) she could instantly make that one feel like home. That’s her magic.
Even if we’re fearful of change, we still need to clear out the old in order to bring in the new. We have amazing opportunities out there just ripe for the picking. But we have to make room for them first.
On a larger scale, we must turn our attention to the change that is currently happening in our society. There is so much progress that is still sorely needed. It’s uncomfortable to clear away the old so that the new can grow. But it’s imperative and important work, and the effort will be well worth it.
Looking Forward
New moons are generally also a time for setting intentions for what we want to manifest over the next six months. This convergence of astrological events is special for yet another reason, though. It’s the first of two Cancer new moons. And as this one is also happening alongside Mercury retrograding in Cancer, it might be better to focus more on the letting go than the calling in.
By the next new moon in Cancer, on July 20, Mercury will have gone direct again. Then we can turn our attention to manifesting the magic we want in our lives, and in the world.
