All forms of divination–Astrology, tarot, palm reading, and others–are linked in fundamental ways. There are just different methods of accessing the same universal vibrations.
With that in mind, there is a tarot card from the Major Arcana that resonates with every Zodiac sign. This card can act as your guide as you explore the tarot–or just give you insight into your everyday life!
As Above, So Below
What’s even more fascinating, if you’re a nerd for divination, is that each of the elemental groups of the Zodiac–that’s Fire, Earth, Air, and Water, also match up with one of the “suits” of a tarot deck.
- Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius) correspond to Wands in the tarot
- Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) correspond to Coins in the tarot
- Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) correspond to Swords in the tarot
- Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces) correspond to Cups in the tarot
If you’re reading the cards for yourself or a friend, keep these correspondences in mind to see if you can find any patterns connected to the Zodiac.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
Aries is linked to The Emperor, the fourth card of the Major Arcana. As you might guess, The Emperor is the guy in charge. The card represents power and determination. While that might sound kind of macho, the card’s qualities are tempered by an instinct to protect friends, family, and even the larger community.
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Taurus is represented in the tarot by The Heirophant, a mysterious card filled with deep wisdom. It’s often considered the card of teachers since The Heirophant is all about sharing wisdom and offering guidance. The quiet strength of Taurus is a great match for this tarot card.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Unsurprisingly, Gemini is paired with another dynamic duo–The Lovers. This card from the Major Arcana is a tricky one. It might represent love, but it can also reveal pairs of opposites that work in balance with each other. Think black and white, love and hate, or chocolate and peanut butter.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Cancer is linked to The Chariot, a card that offers momentum and change. It’s also linked with intuition and an emotional, empathic way of looking at the world. If you often feel like your life is speeding along at a breakneck pace, it’s probably because of The Chariot!
Leo (July 23-August 22)
The card that represents Leo could not be more perfect. This Fire Sign is linked to Strength, a card emblazoned with a bold woman walking side-by-side with a lion. Strength represents power, compassion, and confidence. It’s a wonderful card that is usually a good omen in tarot readings.
Virgo (August 23-September 22)
Virgo, your tarot card is The Hermit. This is a lonely card in many ways, but the Hermit has turned his back on the world in order to undertake an even greater journey of self-discovery and knowledge. If you ever feel like you’re on a totally different wavelength from everyone else around you, it might be The Hermit’s influence.
Libra (September 23-October 22)
Libra, the symbol of the Scales that represents your Zodiac Sign is echoed in the tarot. Your sign is linked to the card Justice. This card is all about balance, fairness, and truth. In the traditional Rider-Waithe deck, Justice is a red-robed figure with a sword held aloft in one hand and–you guessed it–the scales of justice in the other.
Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
Just like you, Scorpio, the Death card is misunderstood. It doesn’t represent literal death but the inevitability of change. Sure, it’s a little spooky–but so are you, sometimes. Death is feared by many when it appears in a tarot reading, but it actually represents rebirth and transformation. (It’s The Tower that you really have to watch out for!)
Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
Sagittarius, your tarot card is Temperance–something that you might struggle with in your everyday life. The Temperance card represents balance, patience, and moderation. However, no one achieves perfect balance without effort. This card is more about the journey toward balance… including all the stumbles and setbacks along the way.
Capricorn (December 23-January 20)
Hey, Capricorn, I’ve got good news and bad news. Your tarot card is The Devil, but before you get too freaked out, know that this card represents desire, freedom, and power. It’s a challenging card to understand, but at its heart, The Devil represents freeing yourself from your inner demons and becoming a stronger person.
Aquarius (January 20-February 18)
Aquarius, you are represented by The Star, one of the most hopeful and wondrous cards of the tarot. When The Star appears in a reading, it is there to light the way and guide the seeker toward truth. Neat, huh?
Pisces (February 19-March 20)
Pisces, your tarot card is an interesting one. The Moon is beautiful and mysterious in itself, but in the tarot, it also represents illusions, dreams and hidden truths. It’s a deeply intuitive card–which makes sense because you are an intuitive person.
