Ask Andie: What Can Astrology Do For Me?

Every week, astrologer Andromeda Davis finds answers to your most important questions. Love, money, success-it’s all written in the stars!

Dear Andie:

I’ve been interested in astrology for a while–it’s spooky how much of a Libra I am, and my best friend is such a Taurus! But I’m not really sure how astrology is supposed to help my everyday life. Like, I read my horoscope, but is there more to it than that?

Thanks, Curious About Astrology

Dear Curious:

First, I’m so glad that you’re exploring your interest in astrology! Sometimes I wish I could start all over again and learn about this field for the first time. There’s so much to learn, and so many wonderful moments of discovery. That moment when the stars show you a truth that unlocks doors in your life? It’s priceless.

But to answer your question, everyday astrology can help you understand yourself, the people in your life, and the overall energy you experience. With a little basic knowledge about astrology, you’ll start to see patterns of behavior that suddenly make sense. The stars can show you the best time to ask for a raise at work or start a new relationship. They can also help explain why everything seems to be going haywire–hello, Mercury in retrograde!

The influence on the planets on our lives is subtle, but when you start looking for it, you’ll recognize the little ways that the dance of the cosmos affects us down here on Earth. Everybody knows that a full moon makes people act crazy, but not everyone is aware (or open to understanding) the influence of Venus or Saturn. It sounds like you’re ready to dive in and discover deeper truths!

To learn how astrology impacts everyday life, start with studying the lunar cycle and the ruling aspects of the planets. I’ve provided a little cheat sheet about the moon phases below to get you started!

Love and Light, Andie

The Phases of the Moon in Astrology

New Moon: The best time for starting new projects, relationships, jobs, etc. The new moon is all about new beginnings.

Waxing Crescent: Ask yourself why you want to achieve a goal or pursue a dream. A good time to do research and talk about your ideas with friends.

Waxing Gibbous: An excellent time to review your goals and plans to see if they need to be tweaked. Practical, analytical thinking is favored.

Full Moon: The full moon reveals all! You can see yourself and others clearly. Projects come to completion–or else fail. A time for honesty and intuition.

Waning Gibbous: Think of this as a teaching moon. Share your hard-earned knowledge with others and learn from them in return.

Waning Crescent: Take stock of your life and think about what the future holds. Relax after a job well done, and consider the paths you’d like to walk next.
