Mercury Goes Retrograde This Weekend — Here’s What That Means for You

Mercury goes retrograde tomorrow, which is sure to bring about some interesting developments. But the planet’s getting a jump on things, moving opposite of the moon today and opening our eyes to some issues that really need attention.

The Moon is Opposite Mercury at 7:52 PM

This evening, the moon in fixed fire sign Leo forms an opposition with Mercury in fixed air sign Aquarius. When the moon faces off with Mercury, two things can happen. One: you’ll be caught up in a war between your thoughts and your emotions. Or two: those energies will combine and open the door to eye-opening discussions and discoveries about your own soul.

Oppositions can be challenging, especially when they’re between two fixed signs of the zodiac. But they can also hold a mirror up to ourselves and force issues of self-growth. This isn’t a great time for being around a large group of people. We can tend to let our emotions cloud our judgments, and others can get caught up in that whirlwind.

It’s more suited to spend time on your own in self-reflection or to be around a trusted friend that will let you talk things out without judgment.

And hold onto your hat, because Mercury starts its moonwalk tomorrow morning…

Mercury Goes Retrograde Tomorrow at 9:47 AM

Tomorrow morning, Mercury stations retrograde in the independent and freedom-loving sign of Aquarius. People talk a lot about Mercury retrograde, and probably blame it for more things than it deserves. It does introduce some complications into our lives though, so let’s talk about that.

Mercury goes retrograde approximately three to four times a year, for about 24 days at a time. While there are other planets that go retrograde (we experienced seven at one time for a while in 2020), Mercury seemingly moves backwards far more than any of them—about 19% of the time.

This phase can bring in some nervous anxiety, tech and communication breakdowns, travel complications, and the strong possibility of losing items. We can find ourselves dwelling on the past more than normal, and there’s also a greater chance of meeting up with people who used to be in our lives but aren’t anymore. This is especially true because this retrograde is in the fixed sign of Aquarius, which rules things like friendships, technology, collaborations, and creative or innovative ideas.

It’s good to be especially careful with our communication at this time. Double-check electronic correspondence before hitting “send” or “post”. It’s also a known time of business complications, so negotiating and signing contracts should wait if at all possible.
