Does astrology work for babies? Every person is unique, but the signs of the Zodiac help us understand them in broad strokes. Understanding your child’s sun sign (as well as the deeper information found in a natal chart) may help you navigate surprises with greater grace and uncover negative patterns before they become habits.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
Aries kids are, unsurprisingly, a real handful. They’ll bold and adventurous, and seemingly unafraid of everything. Aries also tends to learn the word “No” early on and uses it with abandon.
Make sure that they have plenty of opportunities to burn off that excess energy and aggression. Aries does well in sports, but don’t pigeonhole them as jocks. They also enjoy dress-up and, despite their outgoing personalities, still need quiet time to recharge–even if they haven’t quite realized it yet.
Here’s what you can look forward to as a parent for each sign of the Zodiac!
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
As an Earth sign, Taurus connects with nature from an early age. Taurus babies are usually happy as long as they have something to play with–or, even better, chew on. This sign of the Zodiac are natural foodies, and when they’re young they can’t distinguish between actual food and random objects they found on the ground.
Taurus doesn’t love being an only child, but if that’s the case you can ensure that there are always plenty of kids at the house. This sign is happiest at home on familiar ground. They can also be exceptionally stubborn, so prepare for a battle of wills that will last a lifetime.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
The good news is that Geminis are very intelligent and able to pick up almost any skill. They’re also quite talkative, thanks to the influence of Mercury. That means you can expect Gemini to start talking early and never really stop.
The downside to Gemini babies is that they don’t do well when they’re bored. And they get bored very, very easily. They can also be too clever for their own good, so if you catch a young Gemini trying to scam you, make sure to work together on honesty and trust.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Cancers are very loving, family-oriented people. They’ll want to be by your side constantly and will easily experience feelings of rejection when pushed away, so be gentle with them.
These sensitive, creative kids spend a lot of time in their own imaginations. They’ll love storytime–especially if they get to snuggle with the family. Cancers are also great caretakers for pets and younger siblings.
Leo (July 23-August 22)
A star is born! Your little lion will love being the center of attention. Expect them to ham it up for strangers and family alike. Channel their need for the spotlight into constructive outlets, such as dance classes or children’s theater.
Leo has a big personality and might seem like a diva, but that behavior can often mask insecurity. You’ll need to learn quickly to tell the difference between genuine distress and a tantrum that’s just for the sake of being dramatic.
Virgo (August 23-September 22)
Virgos are often very serious children. They thrive on routines and predictable schedules, and little ones may break down when things become chaotic. They’re also total neat freaks, which is great for when they get old enough to clean their own rooms.
Virgo kids love to help around the house. They’re capable of taking on responsibilities as long as the process is clearly explained to them. Just look out in case your little Virgo starts to believe that they’re the parent, not you.
Libra (September 23-October 22)
Libras are total charmers. They love attention and will look for it anywhere they can get it. These kids have a strong sense of right and wrong, as well as a love of beauty that may have them raiding your closet from a young age.
You’ll never have to convince a Libra to share, and they tend to be happy, friendly children with lots of playmates. However, expect to spend a lot of time explaining that sometimes life just isn’t fair.
Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
Hoo boy. A baby Scorpio is truly a wonder to behold. These kids are fearless, ruthless, and totally unpredictable. They’re also natural loners who have trouble expressing their feelings, so you’ll need to help them feel comfortable enough to let down their guard.
Channel Scorpios energy into constructive pursuits like hobbies and extracurriculars. They can be manipulative and secretive, so make sure to foster an open, judgment-free environment in your home.
Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
Your biggest challenge with a Sagittarius will be figuring out where they are at any given time. Expect to spend a lot of time pushing Sagittarius in the stroller; in fact, they may not be able to sleep without a nice, long walk.
These kids are natural leaders who will rule the playground. They will explore every nook and cranny of your neighborhood, too. You should anticipate having trouble with curfews and other rules, so pick your battles wisely.
Capricorn (December 23-January 20)
Sensible, hardworking Capricorn is a classic type-A personality. They’re driven, even from an early age, to be the best in everything they do. Capricorn needs help in managing their perfectionist tendencies. They also need plenty of love and affection, even though they won’t ever ask for it.
Make sure that baby Capricorns spend plenty of time outdoors to help them feel grounded. They thrive on structure, so a weekly outing with the family to a nearby park would be ideal.
Aquarius (January 20-February 18)
Aquarius kids may seem to be a bag of contradictions at first. They’re very smart but approach problems from unexpected angles. They care deeply about the things they believe in, but they also have trouble opening up about their emotions.
When raising an Aquarius, you need to be prepared for anything. Always show them love, support, and respect–no matter how offbeat their passions turn out to be.
Pisces (February 19-March 20)
If you have a Pisces in the family, then you better get used to tears. These highly sensitive water signs are in tune with the emotional realm, and they may find themselves overwhelmed in stressful situations.
Their default setting is to start crying, so work with them from an early age to process emotions in a healthy way. It’s vitally important that you don’t lean on compassionate Pisces for support, even though their instinct will be to help you.
Pisces needs plenty of structure at home as well as enough unrestricted playtime to let their imaginations soar. Finding the right balance for your little fish will be a challenge.
